Was gong to meet quota (55 miles) and camp at free municipal park in Burns Lake, but it proved too sketchy. Stopped for late lunch and a beer at Kin’s headed out of town (Bruce had two…lunches), then rode another 30 miles to Whispering Pines Cabins. (Thanks to Garrett for IB service). 11 hours since we left camp. Ugggg. Microwave popcorn and LaBatts Blue.

646 feet of climbing
Short ride (30 miles) from Vanderhoof and an afternoon of relaxing by lake. Bears in campground!!! Lookout!!!!
Why do do you think they call it Diesel and Dust?
Saturday, June 26th, 2010Tough 56 ish miles to Vanderhoof, up the first half with nasty head winds and rain. Improved with the second half, but road was narrow, no shoulder, and very busy. Probably many near death experiences, but we are all here, so I guess we didn’t get squashed.
Dave’s RV park is awesome. Real grass mini golf. Beauty shower/laundry building.
No time to really explain…
Friday, June 25th, 2010It has been too hard to spend much time on updating much but where we are. Hopefully we can flesh this out in SE Alaska. The exec summary: the first two weeks from Missoula were the most physically demanding period in my life. (Particularly the 5 day ride from Radium Hot Springs to Jasper. The first four days were a mountain pass a day, plus miles before and after).
People we have met have been supurb. (I just hope I get all of the names down correctly.)
Jasper was awesome and evetyone we met who worked with and for teh Park were extremely helpful and supportive.
On to Prince Rupert…
June 25
Friday, June 25th, 2010Good morning, the sun is shining and soon we are off on our bikes. The only decision we have to make is how far to ride. Houston keeps you informed on that. I have found that time goes by quickly when riding…except maybe the last 5 to 10 miles. The Canadian Rockies are spectacular. We have ridden past many peaaks that draw you to them. All snow capped. This is my sixth day of riding. I deal with wind, hills, mountains, and trucks…oh ya, and a coyote was chansing me (right on my back right tire for two miles). Houston was in front of me. I was yelling nasty things to the oyote. Finally he decided the game was over. We just rode as fast as we could. Two young women saw this happen and stopped to make sure all was good. We have been eating well, Lots of bars during the day…ick. Have had some rain but not forceful and rather short lived. We have a short ride today so think I will take a dip in the lake. We try to stay in Provincial Parks. Meet nice folks. Everyone wants to hear our story. Better go or they will leave without me. I haven’t seen a bear but the guys have. Miss everyone but always plenty to think about and do. Love,
sue
Prince George
Thursday, June 24th, 201046 miles. Sue chased by wolf/coyote/big fox for miles! Scene witnessed by two grad students from UA-Fairbanks who were driving north. We stopped and chatted for a few minutes. Nice visitor center in Prince George. Cool architecture and friendly people.
Bikers: safe route through town from Hwy 16 coming from east: turn right on Victoria, right on 17th, left on upland. Take bike path straight through park, then continue up hill on upland. Right on ferry, left on Ospika, left on Tyner Blvd, right on Hwy 16. (Hills on Ospika and Hwy 16 leaving town). DQ near corner of Tyner and Hwy 16.
Purden Lake
