Map My Ride

79.5 miles

2710 feet of climbing

Went 80 miles and camped at Big LaSalle Lake Forest Recreation Area.  Free.  Greg, at Mt. Robson should be applauded for his recommendation (beautiful place)  but scolded for his confusion of miles with kilometers and his sense of distance.  Plus, Greg, your and my definitions of mostly flat are very, very different.

Jasper, Day 2

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Great day yesterday.  Lots of First Nations Peoples activities.

A boy had been whipping this with a cedar stick for about 3 hours. (Always go teh same direcetion!). The only thing added is sugar and it is still plenty tart.

All moved in to Whistlers Campground.  Today: organizing, purging (for Sue), shopping, enjoying not being on saddle for another day.

Tomorrow: Mt. Robson.

It is Wednesday night in Cland.  I have almost everything ready for the expedition to Canada, Alaska, and China.  Lots of planning.  On Friday eve Houston and Bruce are scheduled to meet me in Jasper, Alberta.  What a moment that will be.  I have been thinking about this trip for nine months.  We will keep you updated when computers work.

Map My Ride (Parts 1 and 2)

39.7 miles

2713 feet of climbing

Short 40 miler after climbing brutal hill from Radium Hot Springs (>2000 ft in 8 miles).  Roller coaster after that. Sleet, thunder storms, driving rain.  We were going farther but learned the campground we were headed to was not open for season yet.  Bruce is behind, having stopped at Radium Hot Springs for a dip. I sprung for off season cabin.

Map My Ride

69.3 mile

1834 feet of climbing

Another long day.  Woke up early and wished Rob abd Sean good luck on triathalon.  Dithered aroudn and didn’t get going until about 9:45, but weer instantly caught up in Rocky Mountain Triathlon festivities. When we cleared Wasa Lake, we found ourselves in a long out and back stretch which was part of Olympic length event.  Riding with teh ladies helped us keep pace up.  Bruce and I rode together at first, but he got ahead of me after lunch stop going down a hill adn missed a turn.  Next 25 miles were solo. We both ended up in Invermere independently shopping for much-needed sun screen and COFFEE.  Rode to Radium, did a quick evaluation and chose Cedar Motel, owned by a very interesting couple of Swiss expats, Edward and ???.  chatted them up, cleaned up, and had a over the top steak and ribs meal at a local pub.
